My big toe's connected to my forehead? Fascia A big reason our movement quality matters is due to fascia. Healthy, well functioning fascia has the potential to make us more elastic and resilient. Think of fascia like suran wrap that wraps and connects your muscles together. It connects us so that we can work as one, big system, as opposed to separate pieces. It also means that one "small" limitation at the foot/ankle can affect our head position. Did you know your big toe was connected to your forehead? That's right. EVERYTHING is connected. Fascial Lines Tom Myers is known for discovering and popularizing fascial lines. They are basically predictable patterns of connection between muscles, ligaments, tendons, and even organs. Everything is wrapped, and everything is connected. There are several lines that are affected by the foot and ankle. I chose to focus on one in my video to demonstrate the value of healthy movement. The superficial back line runs from the bottom of the toe all the way up the back of the body and to the front of the forehead. Rowing Mechanics The minor movements at our foot and ankle can affect our performance because everything is connected. When we have adequate movement we put more stretch in the system, we become more stable, as well as more elastic. Did I also mention a problem at the foot could be creating a problem at your low back? STOP thinking muscles. Think Movement. NOTHING works alone. Video
