"I'm a huge fan of giving rowers responsibility".
I wish I had the time...
I get it.
As coaches we have a lot to manage and it's hard to make adjustments to fit the boat to every single rower. That's why I'm a huge fan of giving rowers responsibility.
Do you want them to get into a better catch position? Do you want them to unlock higher levels of rowing performance? How about resilience? Great, because I've made this easy for you.
1) Send them this link, and have them find their ankle number.
*Make sure they write down both sides.
2) Send them this link to teach them how to adjust their footplate angle.
*Supervise the group as they learn.
3) At your next practice have them adjust their footplate angle to +2 of their ankle number.
*Example: Ankle Number = 45 +2 = 47 degree footplate angle.
4) Take the boat out and see how it looks and feels. If it looks and feels right that's their footplate angle.
If it doesn't look or feel right adjust to 1 degree lower until you find the angle that fits them like a glove.
1-4 sessions later you've fit your boat to your entire team.
Congratulations, your team just got faster and more resilient.
